Happy Monday everyone!
We stopped by our neighborhood bookstore before dinner and I picked up a copy of Psychologies Magazine. I’ll read it tonight and if I come across any interesting stories, I’ll definitely share it in a future blog post.
In addition to fashion magazines, I thoroughly enjoy reading psychology related prints. In college, I took advantage of every opportunity to take psychology and sociology courses. I devoured it! I had and still have an unquenchable thirst to understand human behavior. What body language do we exhibit when we’re happy, what do our eyes look like when we’re hopeless, what is the speed of our speech when we’re afraid? I actually think about these things a lot. When I was a visiting teacher at a marginalized elementary school and a mentor at the juvenile detention center, I was trained to observe behavioral changes. More specifically, I was taught to listen and pay attention to signs of abuse. I think the reason I have a soft spot for psychology is because I love people. And the thing I dislike the most is seeing people who were and/or are being abused, especially children and adolescents. The trauma does not end when the abuse stops, and for many, it’s a lifelong journey to recovery (specially for young souls). It’s an injustice that brings darkness to the world. I honestly don’t know how I went from fashion magazines to the topic of abuse. I guess it’s something that’s on my mind lately. I’m so grateful for your time and thank you so much for letting me share.
