Autumn Love :: Layered Jackets & Intricate Beading

I have so much to share with you today!  I hope you have a few minutes to spare =)

Good news #1… it’s starting to feel like Autumn in LA!  I love the cold because it gives me a chance to layer.  I bought this pumpkin color swing jacket a few months ago and finally pulled it out this week.  When one jacket is not enough, two will do!  One of my favorite things to do for Fall and Winter is layering two jackets on top of each other.

And now, the great news… Over a year ago, I went to my dear friend, Josie’s wedding wearing a feather skirt and blazer.  A few days later, my friend Mary emailed me and asked for recommendations as to where to purchase feather dresses after seeing my skirt.  I searched online and found a handful of gorgeous Sue Wong dresses and forwarded them to her.  From that day on, I was bewitched by Sue Wong dresses… the intricate beadwork, the soft embroidery, the tiered lace, and the fanciful feathers.  Two weeks ago, I received an invitation to a red carpet preview event from Angela at Sue Wong.  I read the invitation four times, because I was in disbelief that this was from the same dressmaker that I adored from a year ago.  I called Mystery Man right away.
Still in disbelief, “Umm honey… do you remember the feather dresses I showed you awhile back?”
MM’s calm voice, “Yea.”
And still in disbelief, “I think I just got invited to her red carpet event.”
MM chuckled, “Cool!  Can I come too?!”

After confirming our attendance with Angela, she invited me to the atelier for a fitting.  Remember how I was in disbelief when I got the invitation?  I was jumping for joy when I read about the fitting!

After seeing so many beautiful dresses, I came across one that literally stopped me in my tracks.

Angela introduced me to Sue Wong herself.  And what an amazing woman!   From a humble beginning and against countless obstacles, Sue followed her dreams and is now one of the top celebrity fashion designers.  She’s really an open book.  She’s not afraid to share her philosophies and life stories with others.  When I first met Sue, I instantly felt her aura.  She has an incredibly strong passion for design.  Just talking to her, you can feel her energy radiating from her body.  She is highly detail-oriented, has impeccable taste, and appreciates life.  She shared with me that traditional hand beading and embroidery, passed down from generation to generation, is no longer a sought-after skill, and that it gets harder year after year to find women who can do this type of artistry.  In addition to being in magazines and at Neiman Marcus (and other boutiques), I truly believe that Sue’s dresses belong in art galleries.  There is a timeless and soulful quality about her dresses that not only begs to be worn, but also be hung on walls as art pieces.

Sue’s little birds =)

Thank you so much for being on this journey with me!  Six months ago when I started this blog, I never imagined having the honor of meeting Sue Wong.  I’m so grateful for your support and readership.  The red carpet preview event will be on October 13th.  I can’t wait to show you my dress and pictures from the event!
