It’s December already!  Time flies so quickly.

I love the look of glamour paired with a casual vibe.  This is my first ever chambray shirt.  I adore the color, and moreover, the bottom interior seams are rose colored!  It was meant to be! =)

I’ve been meaning to share this story with you… it’s about the 11th essential item =)   A couple of months ago, I bought a pair of Helmut Lang leather shorts on eBay for $100.  Originally it was $700.  The quality was incredible and the design masterful.  But unfortunately, it was one size too big for me.  I scoured Yelp and found a tailor who was willing to work with leather.  He had less than 10 reviews, but they were all songs of praise.

I arrived at Hector Tailor Shop on Santa Monica Blvd a few days later and was greeted by Hector and his wife.  They ushered me in the dressing room and once I came out with my oversized shorts on, Hector worked his magic.  He tucked, pinned, and chalked.  On my way out, he said, “I’m the best tailor.  I will fix anything.”  My inside voice thought please don’t ruin my shorts, please don’t ruin my shorts while my mouth uttered, “Great!  I’ll be back in a week.”  The reunion with my leather shorts was delightful.  They were perfect!  As I was paying, Hector reminded me, “I’m Hector.  The best tailor in town.”  I responded, “I believe you.”  I went to my car and 10 minutes later was right back at Hector’s shop with a blazer that needed to be taken in at the shoulders.

A month later, I was right back there with this sequin skirt.  When I left the shop, Hector proudly said, “I will fix anything.”  And that was the start of our beautiful relationship.  A skilled tailor is the 11th essential item.  She or he can bring life back to old pieces that simply needed a quick revival, or elevate staple wardrobe items such as blazers or coats to new heights by making it more sharp and fitted.  I’ve heard many horror stories of tailors ruining treasured items.  Please be careful!  Whenever I enter a tailor shop, I always look around to see what they’re currently working on.  If the items look advance (such as suits, jackets, leather pieces, complicated dresses), then I trust their skill level.  If they only have hemmed jeans and shorts, then I don’t take the risk.
