Summer Wardrobe Essentials - Lessons from Moving

From the move, I realized the importance of true classic pieces.  Items that can be worn over and over again, and that won’t get left behind when packing.

Hi everyone.  As you’re reading this, I hope you’re well, healthy, and safe.  2020 so far has been an interesting and difficult year.  As we move to summer, I’m very much looking forward to establishing a sense of normalcy again.  In the last few weeks, we went from worrying about Artemis to making the very difficult decision to move.  We love our apartment and are devastated that we can’t stay anymore.

Surprisingly for living in our place for over 4 years, we didn’t have that much stuff.  During the packing process, I learned a few things:

1. The quarantine diet is not friendly on the waistline.  I’ve been stress eating (which resulted in a lot of pimples and breakouts) and can’t get into my jeans anymore =(
2. I ended up editing down my wardrobe and learned that classic and classic with a twist items took priority.  Not only did I wear them over and over again, but I was looking forward to packing them.
3. I developed wardrobe purchasing “rules/parameters”.  This requires a separate post, but basically it’s a realistic and sensible way for me to manage budget, value, and space better.

In this post, we’re going to touch on point 1 and 2.

Let’s start with point 2.  As I was packing my jeans, I noticed that I kept more high-waisted jeans and let go of low-rise jeans.  High rise jeans consistently lengthens my frame and I feel more comfortable in them.  In addition to denim, I realized that white button-up tops are something I can’t live without.  They’re so versatile and create endless outfit pairings.  A short sleeve one is great for summer with skirts/shorts/jeans, and you can layer it over a long sleeve top in the fall and winter for more texture and warmth.  For example, this Time and Tru white button-up (under $15) has a classic shape, relaxed look, and drapes beautifully.  Perfect for home casual wear, for the office, and on the weekends.

Going back to point 1.  I have a greater appreciation for comfortable fitting jeans, especially after these quarantine meals.  These Jordache Vintage jeans (under $27) are high-waisted with a touch of stretch, which is why they are so soft and comfortable.  The yoke front gives them a retro-inspired, classic-with-a-twist feel.  Instead of rolling up the hem, I did a DIY cut on them to keep the straight leg look.  They fit incredibly well, feel amazing, and elongate my frame!

Summer Wardrobe Essentials

Combining a classic top and high-waisted jeans, I wanted to add summer back to the look.  And a great way to celebrate summer is with strappy sandals.  These Scoop strappy heels (under $20) are summer essentials!  I love the asymmetric design and memory foam cushioning (very comfortable!).  Everything I’m wearing today is from Walmart Fashion.  The Jordache Vintage and Scoop lines are exclusive collections only on Walmart.  I really appreciate that these collections give us the freedom to play with fashion at great prices.  Especially, the strappy sandals.  The black ones are all around classics, the white ones are so chic, and the neon yellow ones are super fun for summer!

I hope you enjoy this classic outfit and post.  Thank you so much for reading and special thanks to Walmart for partnering on this post!
