Happy Friday everyone! Same exact plaid coat, two ways, his and hers today!
:: Styling Menswear for Womenswear ::
I actually love styling menswear for womenswear. While some pieces work extremely well, others are a little more difficult. In my humble opinion, relaxed coats and button-up shirts are very easy to work with. For example, this plaid coat. With its relaxed shoulders, which I think is key, it drapes beautifully on a woman’s frame. For sizing reference, Colin is 6’2 and typically wears a Medium. I’m 5’0 (5’4 on a good day!) and an XS. We’re both wearing the same coat in a mens’ Medium.
For a borrowed-from-the-boys (literally in this case) vibe but with a feminine feel, I added a wide patent belt and statement earrings to the look. And keeping the rest of the look streamlined, I wore my favorite cashmere turtleneck (under $80) and black jeans (under $70) under. I went to a girls’ dinner the other night with this outfit and felt like a character from the show Peaky Blinders! It’s the coat-hat combo!
This is another Best of Budget Under $150 post (previous posts here & here). Every piece on me with the exception of the bag and boots are under $150. I hope you enjoyed the styling tips and photo-story! Don’t be afraid to look in your boyfriend, guy friend, brother, father, that-cool-guy-in-your-life’s wardrobe. And moreover, take a peek at the men’s section when you’re shopping online or in-store.
