Summer in the city! Sharing a few of my must-haves for dressing in this heatwave. From rocking vintage florals to dressing up a belt bag, this season’s trends are a combination of sweet nostalgia mixed with modern twists.

No matter how hot or humid, I’m just so happy to feel the warmth and sunshine.  I think I’m still traumatized from the long cold winter we had, so any sun and heat is a much welcomed experience.  Long warm nights, watching plays at the park (The High Line), seeing a movie under the stars (Bryant Park film series), summer is all about cheer and joy.

This also reflects in a fashion sense.  Beautiful florals, vibrant colors, reviving old trends, reinterpreting archeological treasures, this season’s trends are a combination of sweet nostalgia mixed with modern twists.  I’ve rounded up my top 10 favorite summer fashion trends and styles: vintage florals, belt bags, straight jeans, vibrant shoes, coin necklaces, tulle texture, polka dots patterns, saturated hues, garden prints, and Cinderella heels.  The first five are listed here and the last five are in the video.

1. Vintage Florals

As the infamous Miranda Priestly once said, florals for spring/summer aren’t exactly groundbreaking, but this season’s trend feels more akin to a refresh than a rerun.  With an air of light nostalgia, the vintage-inspired blooms are embracing wallpaper patterns, delicate prints, and playful tones.  I especially love wearing vintage-inspired floral dresses with a pair of heels.  For days where a lot of walking is involved, I love pairing them with sneakers.  A floral mini dress + casual sneakers = a chic city look!  Below are a few of my favorites.  Couple them with nude heels, gladiator sandals, or casual sneakers!

2. Belt Bags

A recent fashion/style accessory trend that experienced a massive resurgence, accompanied by strong expressions of “love” and “hate” from all, was the belt bag.  It’s strange to imagine that the “fanny pack” would be considered as a high fashion accessory, but it was a clear runway favorite from Prada to Gucci.  I have to admit that it took me some time to get on board with this trend.  For one, I wasn’t sure whether to call it a fanny pack, belt bag, or arm rest (as seen here).  But fashion is all about stepping outside your comfort zone, so I tried it. And… I kinda like it.  Like, not love.  However, I do love the versatility.  It can be worn around the waist, through the belt loops, slung across the shoulders, and styled as a clutch by removing the belt.

3. Straight Jeans

While skinny jeans are a wardrobe classic and a timeless silhouette perfect for any occasion, a different denim style is catching the fashion industry’s attention.  The straight leg jeans trend is a relaxed denim style with a retro feel.  I consider them an elegant version of the boyfriend jeans.  Unlike boyfriend jeans where they sit lower on the waist, I like the look of straight jeans with a high-waisted cut.  Moreover, I like them cropped.  It’s a great way to elongate our frame and to highlight our favorite pair of shoes!

4. Vibrant Shoes

Oh so beautiful!  Vibrant hues are taking over, from sunny yellows to 80’s-esque teal and fuchsias.  It’s all about a bold color pop for footwear this summer.  A bright addition to an everyday casual outfit or an eye-catching detail for a dressier look, colored shoes can easily be styled for all occasions.  Darling lilac purples, bold fiery reds, happy sunshine yellows… pair them with straight jeans (as seen here) for a weekend look or with a little black dress for a night out!

5. Coin Necklaces

Digging from our past, this summer season is about reinterpreting archeological treasures.  Antique gold coins and medallions reimagined, and styled with delicate long chains and layered with different lengths and shapes.

Worn solo or layered, coin necklaces exude an ancient vibe that also feels current.  It’s eye-catching, mysterious, and edgy all in one.  Coin necklaces also serves as a great base for layering, especially on those more-is-more accessory days.  I love starting at the highest point with a thin or chain choker, and working down with coin necklaces at different lengths and sizes.  This jewelry look is beautiful when paired with low cut tees or shirts and deep neckline dresses.

And we continue our summer fashion trends watch with this video featuring: 6. Whimsical Tulle, 7. Garden Prints, 8. Saturated Hues, 9. Sparkle Heels, and 10. Polka Dot Patterns.

As always, thank you so much for reading and watching!  I hope this trends report and the styling suggestions are helpful.  Happy summer and have a great week ahead!
